Future Chefs wanted for annual Sodexo competition
Calling all “Future Chefs” for Sodexo’s 15th Annual Culinary Competition. Sodexo is looking for you to submit your recipe to complete the plate with your favorite main dish.
A lucky winner from each lower elementary school will be chosen as a finalist to compete in the contest at Woodhaven High School on March 5. As a bonus, the winner of this event will be entered in a Future Chefs National Challenge for some great prizes!
Pick up an entry form today in each elementary school’s cafeteria and turn them in by the deadline on February 7. Due to ordering deadlines, we cannot accept any entries after February 7.
Here are some helpful tips to be a finalist in this year’s culinary competition.
1. Be original - You don’t have to be like everyone else. Consider adding a new twist to your favorite Main dish to complete your plate.
2. Be creative - A student once submitted a recipe for “dill cookies!” It sounds terrible, but they were great! Don’t try to be too weird, but we love to see different recipes!
3. Don’t do recipes that are too easy or too complicated.
4. This doesn’t have to be your own, original recipe. You can get them off the Internet or anywhere but try to alter it slightly to make it your own!
5. Make sure recipes can be made from start to finish in the allowed time frame. (1-1.25 hrs.)
6. Make sure to use legible writing with first and last name on submission form.
7. Sorry, only one person can make each recipe at the competition.
8. We are looking for you to complete the plate with your favorite main dish.
9. At the main competition, judges will consider the following seven criteria:
Taste
Originality
Ease of Preparation
Healthy Attributes
Kid Appeal
Plate Presentation
Student Chef Presentation to Judges
Helpful Hint: When you present your recipe, include your name, the title of your recipe, a description of how you made it flavorful, and any steps you may have taken to minimize food waste.
