WOODHAVEN, Mich. – February 25, 2025 – The Woodhaven-Brownstown School District (WBSD) is proud to announce that Stephanie Jaskolski, an English language arts teacher at Woodhaven Upper Elementary, has been named the Region 9 Michigan Regional Teacher of the Year for 2024-25. This prestigious honor recognizes her exceptional dedication to education, her students, and the teaching profession.
Jaskolski is one of ten educators across Michigan selected as Regional Teachers of the Year, making her a finalist for the Michigan Teacher of the Year award. This recognition, organized by the Michigan Department of Education (MDE), highlights teachers who demonstrate excellence in the classroom and contribute to the advancement of education in the state.
“Stephanie Jaskolski is a shining example of the excellence we strive for in our classrooms every day,” said WBSD Superintendent Mark Greathead. “Her passion for teaching, innovative approach, and unwavering commitment to her students have earned her the prestigious title of Region 9 Michigan Regional Teacher of the Year. I am incredibly proud to have her represent Woodhaven-Brownstown School District as a finalist for Michigan Teacher of the Year. Our entire community stands behind her as she continues to inspire and lead with excellence.”
Jaskolski’s recognition follows a competitive application process that began with nominations from students, staff, and community members across the state. She was selected for her outstanding contributions to education, her commitment to student success, and her leadership in the teaching profession.
“Region 9 Teacher of the Year! What an honor! This was more unexpected than a quiet classroom on a Friday afternoon,” Jaskolski said. “Teaching is already the best job in the world, but this award makes it even better. I’m eager to share my experience and collaborate with others to strengthen Michigan’s public schools. Huge thanks to my amazing students, fantastic colleagues, and, of course, coffee for keeping the magic alive. Here’s to more learning, laughter, and maybe even remembering to take attendance on time!”
As a Regional Teacher of the Year, Jaskolski will serve on the Michigan Teacher Leadership Advisory Council, where she will collaborate with the Michigan Department of Education and other educators to provide input on policies and initiatives that impact students and teachers statewide. She will also participate in the next phase of the selection process, which includes an interview with a panel of statewide education stakeholders to determine the Michigan Teacher of the Year.
The Michigan Teacher of the Year will have the opportunity to represent Michigan’s educators at a national level, serving as a non-voting member of the State Board of Education and attending national conferences to advocate for teachers and students across the state.
The entire Woodhaven-Brownstown community celebrates this incredible achievement and stands behind Jaskolski as she moves forward in the selection process.
