The Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) is Michigan’s state-funded, no-cost, high quality preschool program that is provided through the Woodhaven-Brownstown School District. Currently, there are GSRP classrooms at each elementary school within our district, operating Monday through Thursday following the building’s calendar, including school day start and end times.
GSRP is first offered to families whose children have turned 4 years old on or before September 1st and meet specific eligibility factors:
Families with a gross income at or below 400% of the Federal Poverty Level
Children with diagnosed disabilities or delays
Children with challenging behaviors
Parents, guardians, or children whose primary language other than English
Parent or guardian with low educational obtainment
Neglect or abuse of the child or parent/guardian
Environmental factors such as parental death, incarceration, or absence; prenatal or postnatal exposure to toxic substances; residence in a high-risk neighborhood, or teenage pregnancy (parent under the age of 20 at the time of child’s birth)
If you or your child meet any of the eligibility criteria listed above, you qualify for GSRP, and should fill out the WBSD GSRP Interest Form.
The Enrollment Process
Great Start Readiness Program enrollment meetings will be held at the Woodhaven-Brownstown Board of Education Building by appointment only. Appointments will be scheduled by a WBSD staff member by phone after completing the GSRP Interest Form.
Families interested in enrolling their child in GSRP must bring the following documents to the enrollment meeting:
Proof of income (W2 or 1040 preferred)
Parent/guardian proof of residency (Driver’s License preferred)
Child identification (Birth certificate preferred)
Child Immunizations Record
Child Health Appraisal (Must be completed by a doctor within the first 30 days of school if not received at the enrollment meeting)
Individualized Education Plan (IEP) if applicable
After all documents are received, the child’s placement process may begin. Please note, children who enroll in GSRP are not guaranteed a classroom placement. Families will be notified about classroom placements beginning in late August and into September.
